The Sinner Who Became A Soul Winner

The Bible says in Romans 3:23, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (KJV) Truly, we are all sinners bound to hell, but we praise God because He did something great for us at the Cross. He gave His only begotten Son Jesus who shed His precious blood and died at the Cross for us sinners, buried, and rose again on the third day to give us hope of salvation.
The Samaritan woman’s encounter with the Lord Jesus truly changed her life completely, from sinner bound to hell to a saved person willing to tell others about Jesus, the Messiah. Knowing and receiving Christ by faith as her Lord and Savior triggered her to leave her waterpot and reached her fellow Samaritans with the Good News. In John 4:28-29, it is written, The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? (KJV)
(I) The Sinner’s Turning Point John 4:16, 17
Crossroads of life maybe important days, events or experiences that produce life-changing effect on one’s life. The Samaritan women’s life was turned upside down when she met the Lord. She thought that the Lord was a prophet then eventually perceived that He is the most-awaited Messiah. God uses crossroads to divert one’s life to another way as part of His divine plan so he may be guided in the way He wants him to be.
In John 4:28, it is written, The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, (KJV) This passage shows us how the Samaritan woman changed her priority and led her to tell others about the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who are in Christ should live orderly and be known by their changed lives. (See II Corinthians 5:17)
-The secret sin John 4:18
We cannot hide anything from God because He is omniscient and He knows man’s doings and secret sins. The Bible says in John 4:17, The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. (KJV) This is a shocking revelation of the Lord about the woman’s fleshly lifestyle. We really need to realize how sinful we are in the sight of God lest we become insensitive toward sin.
In John 2:24-25, But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, 25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. (KJV) The Lord knows all the things that are in our mind and heart. We must then confess our secret sins and walk in the right path.
The significant change of life John 4:28, 29
Obviously, the Samaritan women exhibited remarkable “changed life”. Could you imagine a sinner who turned to a soul winner after her encounter with the Lord? Surely, true spiritual conversion through faith in Christ is life-changing.
In John 4:28-29, it is written, The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? (KJV) Unquestionable changed life is a powerful light being used by God in leading people to Christ. (See II Corinthians 5:17)
The Savior Of The World Revealed Himself John 4:25, 26
The Samaritan woman had little knowledge about the coming Messiah; but the Lord revealed Himself fully and such truth led her to believe the True and Living Savior of the world. The Bible says in John 4:25-26, The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. (KJV)
-The sayings of the Savior John 4:34-37
In John 4:34-37, it is written, Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. (KJV)
What the Lord said about mission is very important for us to give attention to because they are “the must-haves” of every mission-oriented believer. We really need spiritual sensitivity toward the needs of the lost and use our limited time and substance to reach them with the Gospel. It is also needful for us to realize that mission works require teamwork.
The sending of the reapers John 4:38
Sending missionaries to the mission field has a cost to pay. Our division of labor in the harvest field must be well-observed and our responsibilities must not be taken lightly. In John 4:38, the Lord said, I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours. (KJV) Interdependence among laborers in the vast harvest field is also a great help in fulfilling the “Great Commission”.
The Souls Who Were Led To The Savior John 4:28-30
Through the eyes of Jesus, we could see the spiritual need of the lost. Having Christ-like compassion will surely trigger our lives to prioritize leading people to Him despite the heavy domestic duties we have. The Bible says in John 4:28-30, The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? 30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. (KJV)
Real soul winners do their evangelistic task heartily without being pressured by other believers. The women was not pressured by any man when she invited the Samaritans and led them to the Savior. Her testimony created an object of interest and she gained the hearts of men to come and see the Messiah. As a great result, the Samaritans were led to the saving knowledge of Christ in an unexpected and God-honoring way.
-The saving-faith of men John 4:39, 40
Having head-knowledge about Jesus is not enough for a person to be saved. He must realize his sinfulness, repent from his sins, and receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. The Bible says in John 4:39, And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. 40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. (KJV) What a saving-faith the Samaritans displayed after hearing the testimony of the woman.
The significant increase of believers John 4:41-42
Believers must keep on winning souls for Christ and enjoy the blessing of seeing souls being saved in a notable way. The Bible says in John 4:41-42, And many more believed because of his own word; 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. (KJV) These verses will make us realize the blessing of introducing the Savior to the lost. It is our joy to see others being saved through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Spiritual insights to live by:
The testimony of the Samaritan woman is truly inspiring and can be used as an excellent illustration as we share the Good News to the lost. What a wonderful moment to see sinners being saved by grace through faith in Christ and eventually serve the Lord as soul winners. As long as we live, it should be our longing to lead lost people to the Living Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Don’t be ashamed of telling others about the Gospel, but rather boldly proclaim it with the power of the Holy Ghost. In Romans 1:16, the Apostle Paul wrote, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (KJV) Undoubtedly, the Gospel of Christ is what the people need in this lost and dying world.
