The Prayer Of Moses

We count it a blessing to have “the Prayer of Moses” written in the Scriptures for us to ponder in our hearts and learn spiritual lessons from it. Learning from the lives of godly men and how they prayed to the True and Living God will surely help us to improve and attain a well-established prayer life.
Daniel was also a man of faith and his prayer life was well-established and powerful. The Bible says in Daniel 6:10, Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. (KJV) The Phrase “as he did aforetime” denotes Daniel’s consistent prayer life from his youth to old age, and it was not hindered by any man.
As we study the lives of godly men and their powerful prayer life, God will surely teach us important things for our spiritual advancement and fruitfulness.
(I) Acknowledgment Of God’s Sovereignty Psalm 90:1-8
One vital thing we should not forget when we pray is to acknowledge God’s sovereignty. As we read Psalm 90:1-8 we will realize that before Moses asked needful things from God, he first mentioned God’s eternal greatness in contrast to man’s frailty.
In Psalm 90:9-10, it is written, For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told. 10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. (KJV) These verses show us the shortness of man’s life here on earth.
-Wisdom to live a well-spent life Psalm 90:11, 12
We are living a life full of uncertainties, and for such reason, we need to manage our time carefully and wisely so we may not wander in the wilderness of unproductiveness. The Bible says in Psalm 90:11-12, Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. (KJV) We are just living by God’s sustaining grace. We need wisdom from above to live a well-spent life for God’s honor and glory.
With joy-giving mercy Psalm 90:13-15
We cannot imagine how we can survive without the mercy of God. It is always right to appreciate and praise God for His incomparable mercy. In Psalm 90:13-15, it is written, Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants. 14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil. (KJV) It should be a part of our prayer to beg for God’s mercy moment by moment because His mercy is joy-giving.
With God’s providential acts Psalm 90:16
Praying for God’s providential acts is a wisdom-filled request. The Bible says in Psalm 90:16, Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. (KJV) We cannot achieve great things in this life without divine leading and acts of the Holy Ghost. We must keep on serving the Lord faithfully and acknowledge God’s special working in our midst.
With well-established works Psalm 90:17
We cannot establish the works of our hands by ourselves, but with the presence of God working in us, great works will be accomplished. In Psalm 90:17, it is written, And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it. (KJV) We must pray for God’s presence and let Him work in us in a very notable way. As we rely on Him, His loving-favor will be upon us and He will bless the work of our hands. Others will be amazed and glorify God as they see our well-established works.
Spiritual insights to live by:
We are living in a world not knowing how soon we will depart from this physical existence. Sooner or later, our earthen vessel will turn into dust as in the beginning. For such reason, we really need to pray, rely on the Lord, and do what is right and pleasing before His eyes.
The Apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 3:17, And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. (KJV) Let us exalt the Name of Jesus in everything we do and let God be glorified. Keep on praying like Moses and experience God’s power in your life.
