Midnight Thanksgiving To God

Rising up at midnight to give thanks to God is not a normal habit of a natural man. In reality, many people today are still “wide-awake” at midnight because of their heavy work loads, but not purposely to use that time to commune with God. Seemingly, many people today are so busy doing things that pertain to their secular advancement, but not for spiritual gain.
Believers must be mindful of their privilege and opportunity to keep in touch with God so they may become strong spiritually and be not led by carnal lifestyle. Giving thanks to God is delightful to Him. In Psalm 136:1, it is written, O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (KJV) God is so good and He is worthy to be thanked for. The way we give thanks to God reveals how we truly appreciate His loving-kindness.
(I) Thanksgiving By God-fearing People Psalm 119:62
One way of showing our love and reverential fear to God is by giving quality time to Him through thanksgiving. The psalmist said in Psalm 119:62-63, At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments. 63 I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts. (KJV) Rising at midnight to give thanks to God is a wonderful expression of one’s mindfulness of God and a distinct identity of God-fearing people.
-Appreciating God’s judgment and mercy Psalm 119:62
Unfair judgment is prevalent in this troubled world dominated by manipulative people. We may experience injustices as we live here on earth, but we praise God because He is the Righteous God who will condemn the ungodly and punish them accordingly. The Bible says, …because of thy righteous judgments. God is worthy to be thanked for because of His righteous judgment and mercy.
We must be careful of what we are doing today because soon, we will give account before the Lord, the Righteous Judge. In II Timothy 4:8, it is written, Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. (KJV) Love the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ and be rewarded in due time.
Manifestation of well-lived precepts of truth Psalm 119:57-60
Strict adherence to the precepts of truth is a perfect catalyst for spiritual growth and fruitfulness. In Psalm 119:57, it is written, Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words. (KJV) Keeping God’s Word in our heart will guard us from sins. (See Psalm 119:11)
Living by the Word of God will lead us to the right path. The psalmist said in Psalm 119:58-60, I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word. 59 I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. 60 I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments. (KJV) Man is prone to sin, but through the guiding power of the Scriptures, he could be restored from his backslidden condition could be restored.
Sign of a teachable heart Psalm 119:64
Lack of knowledge will push a man to became an easy victim of the adversary. We really need more knowledge from the Word of God, but it takes a teachable heart to learn God’s commandments. The Bible says in Psalm 119:64, The earth, O LORD, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes. (KJV) Be a teachable person and experience God’s wonderful working in your life.
Spiritual insights to live by:
The evil influence of ungodly people is worldwide and those who will be trapped in their earthly principles will be destroyed in a heart-breaking way. In Psalm 119:61, it is written, The bands of the wicked have robbed me: but I have not forgotten thy law. (KJV) Being mindful of the Word of God will make us strong and courageous to face and overcome the numberless enemies of truth.
Pondering God’s righteous judgment in our hearts will surely stir us up to rise up at midnight and give thanks to Him joyfully. Have an intimate communion with God and let Him shape your life unto Christ-likeness for His honor and glory.
