If Your Riches Increase

It is a normal thing for a natural man to desire more riches in this present life for a certain reason. Unquestionably, having notable riches in this world will give us an advantage to do great things for God’s honor and glory. In I Timothy 6:18-19, it is written, That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. (KJV)
On the other hand, the Bible warns us of the danger of discontentment and love of money. It says in I Timothy 6:10, For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (KJV) Money is a good instrument, but not a good master and object of love.
Earthly treasures are temporary and corruptible, but spiritual treasures are eternal and incorruptible. In I Timothy 6:6-8, But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. (KJV) Godliness with contentment is truly a great gain; but if your treasures increase, don’t fall in love with it, neither play with dangerous game that could threaten your godly life.
(I) Keep On Trusting God At All Times Psalm 62:1-8
Our riches may increase significantly, but we must keep in mind that earthly treasures are just ephemeral things and we cannot keep them forever. Most importantly, we must keep on trusting God at all times, remembering that life is not measured by wealth. The Bible says in Psalm 62:8, Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. (KJV)
God is the Provider of all our needs and He is worthy to be thanked for. Without God, we are nothing and our substance has no guarantee to sustain our lives in this earthly existence.

Intensified love of money may trigger man’s heart to gain more earthly riches through deceitful ways. The Bible says in Psalm 62:10, Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. (KJV) Gaining riches through dirty ways is offensive to God. Ill-gotten wealth will not last, and worst of all, it will usher the possessor to a tragic life.
The Bible warns us of the danger of getting rich. In I Timothy 6:9, it is written, But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. (KJV)
Use your treasures for God’s honor and glory I Chronicles 29:12, 13 Luke 8:1-3
Being rich and using our substance for God’s honor and glory is right and delightful to God. King David said in I Chronicles 29:12-13, Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. 13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. (KJV) King David did not only acknowledge God’s provision, but thanked and praised God for it.
During Christ’s earthly ministry, His early disciples supported Him by using their substance for the furtherance of the Good News. It should be our desire and conviction to use our God-entrusted riches in supporting our Global Missions Program so we may reach more lost souls and lead them to the saving knowledge of Christ.
In Luke 8:1-3, it is written, And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, 2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, 3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance. (KJV) These verses remind us to use our substance in the spreading of the Word of Truth.
Spiritual insights to live by:
When riches increase, don’t let your faith be diverted and be drawn away from God. In Psalm 62:5, it is written, My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. (KJV) Whatever problem we may encounter in this present life, only the true and living God is reliable to cling to. Expect great things from above and use your blessings for God’s honor and glory.
Earthly treasures are perishable, but God’s precious promises will be fulfilled according to His blessed plan. The Bible says in I Timothy 6:17, Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (KJV) Keep on trusting God and let Him guide you in the way of truth.
