Following The Lord’s Beneficial Instructions

Instructions are very important before starting an important task, while doing it, and even after completing the job. In all areas of life, we really need wisdom-filled instructions so we may be guided accordingly. Following right instructions will help us to focus our hearts and minds to what is right so we may avoid unnecessary errors.
The first instructions we received in life surely came from our parents and they served as lights to our path leading us to maturity. The Bible says in Proverbs 1:8, My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: (KJV) Honoring our earthly parents is right and a natural precondition to obedience to God, our heavenly Father.
A careful study about the Lord’s miracle-producing instructions to Peter will help us understand the blessings of following instructions from higher authorities. The Bible says in Luke 5:4, Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. (KJV) Peter obeyed the Lord’s words and the rest is history.
(I) It Yields Extraordinary Blessing Luke 5:1-7
When the people crowded around the Lord Jesus to hear Him preach the Word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, then entered into one of the ships owned by Peter and instructed him to push the ship a little from the land. The Bible says in Luke 5:3, And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. (KJV) Peter obeyed the word of the Lord and let his ship be used by the Lord in his teaching; and many people heard the Word of God. What a blessing of obeying the Lord’s instruction!
Following God’s instruction to the smallest detail will produce extraordinary result. The Bible says in Luke 5:5-7, And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. (KJV) Obeying God’s command will lead us to experience overwhelming and overflowing blessing.
-Convicting blessing Luke 5:8, 9
It’s truly our joy to receive good things from above. On the other hand, when Peter saw the great multitude of fishes they caught, he was convicted and realized within himself that he’s a sinful man not worthy of the unbelievable blessing. In Luke 5:8-9, it is written, When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: (KJV) Peter also realized what kind of a man the Lord Jesus really is. He truly believed that Jesus is Lord.
It’s good for us to be sensitive toward the goodness of God so we may know if it conveys an important lesson for us to consider. God’s blessings being poured upon us might be a gentle way to convict us of our sins and lead us to keep right with Him with a repentant heart.
In Romans 2:4, it is written, Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? (KJV) We must keep in mind that blessings are not mere gifts from above, but they also entail great responsibilities for us to take heed.
Blessing that conveys God’s divine calling Luke 5:10-11
Sometimes, the Lord uses His overflowing blessings to get our attention so we may recognize that these good gifts are “call-related blessings”. The Bible says in Luke 5:10-11, And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. (KJV) The goodness of God should trigger our hearts to serve Him without reservation.
Reminder:
The Lord has many unusual ways to call believers to fulltime ministry. One way is showering His blessings upon them so they may be convicted to surrender their lives and serve Him continually. The Lord Jesus said to Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. Praise God for His perfect ways!
